Some days are naturally productive and other days can feel like a bit of a mental struggle. If you battle with this inconsistency in your work life it can feel overwhelming at times. There’s no need to worry though because there’s a quick way to reset!
Step One
First things first, bring a renewed awareness to your sense of touch. We find that a simple yet conscious washing of hands with cold water to be extremely effective in brining that awareness back to your body. If you’re feeling brave, even try rinsing your face gently. Again, really be sure to focus on the sensation of the cold water on your skin.
Step Two
Grab yourself a glass of water before returning to your desk. You would be surprised by how often dehydration affects your cognitive abilities. It doesn’t have to be cold like the water you had used for sensory stimulation; this glass of water is purely used to hydrate you.
Step Three
Once you’ve returned to your workspace, make sure you are free of distractions. Distractions such as cell phones or even having multiple tabs on your browser can cause your mind to wander in multiple directions. You may not realize how much of a distraction those little things are but they add up quickly.
Step Four
Last but not least, bring your focus back to your breathing. There’s no need to get carried away with a 10 minute pranayama exercise but make sure you are breathing nice and deeply. There are full instructions on how to center yourself with your breathing HERE.
Simply practice these deep breaths nice and slowly, allowing your chest and diaphragm to rise and fall comfortably.
