Do you suffer from a sore, stiff neck and tense shoulders? It seems all too common now that we spend eight or more hours a day sitting behind a desk. Whether it’s a pain that’s been slowly creeping up on you or if it’s a pain that you’ve been struggling with for a while, these three simple yoga-inspired exercises can help!

Better yet, you can do all three of these exercises in three minutes without leaving your desk.

As with any yoga practice, we start by bringing our attention to your breath. Take five deep, conscious breaths to centre yourself; inhale energy and exhale stress.

Perfect, let’s get started with these 3 exercises.

  1. Neck Stretch: This is a great way to bring some mobility and overall movement into your neck and shoulders. This is probably a movement you naturally make when you get stressed or getting extra tension in your neck. Read the full instructions  HERE.
  1. Cat/Cow: This exercise consists of two main sections, “Cat” and “Cow”. These exercises are great for brining movement into your entire spine including your neck. You can see the full instructions for this exercise HERE.
  1. Shoulder Rolls: It’s time to roll the stress out of your shoulders. Shoulder Rolls are exactly what they sound like. Find the full instructions on how to perform this exercise safely and thoroughly HERE.
  1. *Bonus* Seated Spinal Twist: Are you feeling extra stiff? Try a Seated Spinal Twist to really wring out any extra tension and stress from your entire upper body. Be sure to read the instructions properly for this one because most people do this one incorrectly. Find the full instructions for this exercise HERE.
