For most of our Canadian provinces, it’s Family Day today in our country!

Family day was originally created to give families extra time to spend together, but it’s very conveniently placed between New Year’s Day and Good Friday. Who doesn’t love an extra day to hang out with loved ones?

It’s no secret that in today’s day and age, the family unit is a busy unit.  The heads of the household each have their own careers and jobs, the children go every which way with school, work and their own extra curricular activities and sometimes it feels as though you’re passing each other like ships in the night.  Never has it been more important to cultivate a good family connection.

Here’s a few suggestions to incorporate into your week.  Maybe just one or two to start and go from there!

  1. Eat together! Ditch the handheld devices for some good old fashioned conversation. Take turns talking about your day.
  2. Play together! Find a family activity that everyone can enjoy. From boardgames to cooking together to a yoga class at your local community center. What a great way to establish connection and have a little fun.
  3. Read together! Find 10 minutes before bedtime to sit together and read. Whether this is you and your child, or you and a partner, these 10 minutes sitting quietly with a book often opens up many new doors & conversations and can be quite transformative to relationships.

What a blessing family is. We’d love to hear how you celebrate family or cultivate connection with you and yours. Drop us a line!
