Spring Cleaning for your Work from Home Routine
Spring has arrived and it is a great time to move out of our winter habits into fresh new ones.
Try our suggestions below to gain clarity and inspiration while adding variety to your work from home lifestyle.
1. Open the Windows
Higher oxygen levels mean more of it circulates to your brain, which helps you feel energized, improves your ability to concentrate and remember information.
A study found that subjects given oxygen versus regular air performed up to 20% better on a memory test.
It can also help promote the production of serotonin, allowing you to feel happier and less anxious.
You’ll get a clearer, sharper, calmer mind, and all it takes is a few breaths of fresh air.
2. Let Things Bloom
Indoor plants don’t just look good, plants improve air quality by producing oxygen and removing pollutants like formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia.
Plants help us feel better simply by being close to nature.
So grab your green thumb and go pick your favourites from bamboo to succulents.
If you really want to add to the outdoorsy feeling, add birdsongs.
The sounds of birds, especially songbirds, has consistently shown to improve mood and mental alertness.
3. Create a New Commute
Now that it is getting lighter out earlier, try getting up earlier and enjoy a slower morning or add in a walk around the block to begin your day on a high note.
Walking increases your heart rate, kickstarts your metabolism and helps relieve stress.
Producing and sticking to a work schedule will help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
It will also give you the time you need to fit home physical activity sessions into your busy schedule.
4. Add Some New Movement
Movement increases your blood flow and circulation, which translates to a natural jolt of energy.
Prevent the all-day sitting by setting a timer to ring at 30-minute intervals as a reminder to move.
Challenge your co-workers in your next Zoom meeting to standing instead of sitting for the duration of the meeting.
Remember, housework counts as exercise.
Whether you’re mowing the lawn or cleaning the carpets, different types of activity can all add up to more moderate exercise each week.

BENEFITS
Opens and stretches tight back muscles, releases tension in shoulders, chest, arms and neck, facilitates deeper breathing, improves circulation to upper body, including heart and lungs, reduces overall stress, increases energy and more.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Sit slightly forward on your chair, legs at a 90° angle, feet flat on the floor. Contract your abdominal muscles, roll your shoulders back and down, and lift your chest up.
Step 2: Reach your right arm forward, then bend your right arm and reach your right hand up, forming a 90° angle with the right arm. Reach your left arm underneath your right arm, and turn your palms to face each other, pressing them together as best you can. Squeeze both arms together.
Step 3: Keeping both arms squeezed together in this position, lift your elbows up toward the sky as high as they will comfortably go. Stay here for 3-5 breaths, breathing deeply in and out of your upper/mid back area. Relax your shoulders and facial muscles.
Step 4: To release, take one last inhale, and as you exhale, release both arms and place your hands on your thighs. Shake out your arms and breathe normally.
Step 5: Repeat on the other side, switching hand positions.
