If you’ve never done yoga at home, now might be the time to start. An in-home yoga practice doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Sometimes 30 minutes can make a big difference in your state of mind and how you feel. A regular consistent practice is best, so 30 minutes 3-5 times a week is better than 90 minutes 1-2 times a week.

Don’t know how to get started?

There are some basic yoga poses that just about anyone can learn very quickly, and that are on the safer side, such as:

-Cat
-Downward Facing Dog
-Seated Forward Fold
-Tree
-Lunge
-Warrior
-Sphinx
-Simple Seated Twist
-Bridge

If you’re brand new to yoga, we recommend working with an experienced teacher first, to learn the basics and to ensure your practice is safe for your body. You can take a few classes at a studio or gym, do Private Yoga sessions in your home or Corporate Yoga at your workplace. While an experienced instructor can always add value to your personal practice, it is generally considered safe to practice on your own at home, as long as you stick to the basics, and as long as you are generally in good health.

Make sure you have a proper yoga mat, appropriate clothing, and you may benefit from blocks, a bolster and a strap, but props are not necessary.

Ensure that you practice yoga on a mostly empty stomach, never do yoga when you are sick, and if you are pregnant, check with your doctor or midwife first before starting.

A little knowledge, a yoga mat and the desire to get going are all that you really need to cultivate a strong in-home yoga practice.
