New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is not an outcome, it is a process. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better rituals, not chasing better results.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep sep-none\"><\/div>\n<p>So how do we build new rituals and eliminate undesirable habits?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Habit Loop<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>According to Clear, every habit in our lives operates via a simple neurological feedback loop which consists of four main components.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A Cue<\/li>\n<li>A Craving<\/li>\n<li>A Response<\/li>\n<li>A Reward.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This \u2018habit loop\u2019 is operating continually in the background.<\/p>\n<p>This is why habits, once established, are very hard to change.<\/p>\n<p>The habit loop is our auto-pilot, which is essentially the opposite of mindfulness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A mindfulness practice is one of our best allies in hacking the habit loop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Practicing mindfulness hones our ability to stop and take a breath.<\/p>\n<p>It means actually noticing what we are doing, as we are doing it.<\/p>\n<p>Are there other habits you would like to develop or change this year?<\/p>\n<p>If so, here are some other effort.<\/p>\n<p>Clear recommends using the Two-Minute Rule, which suggests you scale your habits down until they take two minutes or less to perform.<\/p>\n<p>So instead of saying \u201cI will do a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/innergycorporateyoga.com\/staging\/services\/virtual-yoga\/\">one-hour yoga class<\/a>\u00a0three times per week\u201d, perhaps you commit to simply rolling out your yoga mat each morning at 7 am.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you never actually practice yoga that week, the act of rolling out your mat establishes the new routine.<\/p>\n<p>Once you are rolling out your mat each morning like clockwork, you make an almost imperceptible increase and commit to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/innergycorporateyoga.com\/staging\/resources\/take-5-to-innergize\/\">practicing one posture<\/a>\u00a0each morning.<\/p>\n<p>In this way, you expand your daily rituals incrementally, all the while making them automatic over time.<\/p>\n<h3><b>2) Choose What to Focus on Wisely<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The idea of keystone habits was first introduced in Charles Duhigg\u2019s book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/gp\/product\/0385669763\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=15121&amp;creative=330641&amp;creativeASIN=0385669763&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=inncoryogin0d-20&amp;linkId=4b7f6f7fc3a53b9ae6c31d8162c750b6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>The Power of Habit<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Duhigg:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeystone habits are \u201csmall changes or habits that people introduce into their routines that unintentionally carry over into other aspects of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keystone habits create a domino effect and touch every area of your life.<\/p>\n<p>For example, meditating first thing in the morning might lead to better food choices throughout the day and better sleep at night.<\/p>\n<p>Each person will have different keystone habits that are specific to them.<\/p>\n<p>By discovering and focusing on keystone habits first, we are working smarter, not harder.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16305 alignleft lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/innergycorporateyoga.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/morewater.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"232\" data-src=\"https:\/\/innergycorporateyoga.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/morewater.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>3) Harness the power of your Environment<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>All of the experts are in agreement on this one.<\/p>\n<p>Behavior is often the direct result of the environment we find ourselves in.<\/p>\n<p>It is nearly impossible to enact lasting change if we are bombarded with stimuli that pull us in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p>We are largely affected by our environment, whether we realize it or not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is nearly impossible to stay positive if you are always surrounded by negative people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will be hard-pressed to eat healthfully while your cupboards are stocked with junk food.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there is much we can do to design our environment for success.<\/p>\n<p>Want to drink more water?<\/p>\n<p>Place filled water bottles strategically throughout your home.<\/p>\n<p>Want to declutter regularly?<\/p>\n<p>Place boxes labeled \u201cdonate\u201d, \u201ctrash\u201d, \u201csell\/recycle\u201d somewhere in the house.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever you see an item that clearly belongs in one of those piles, place it in the box.<\/p>\n<p>To get our environment working for us, we need to make the cues for good habits both obvious and visible.<\/p>\n<h3><b>4) Make it Satisfying<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" habits, making them automatic is the name of the game.<\/p>\n<p>Motivation alone may carry you to the 6- week mark (the time by which about 80% of resolutions have been abandoned).<\/p>\n<p>However, for new habits to become second-nature, they need to satisfy the reward portion of the habit loop.<\/p>\n<p>There must be enough of a reward to make you want to repeat the action.<\/p>\n<p>Without it, the habit is unlikely to take root.<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s important to remember to celebrate the little victories along the way.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Keep it Simple<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Whether or not we resolve to quit resolutions and hack habits, one thing is certain.<\/p>\n<p>This year in particular we can all benefit from a gentle approach that focuses on joy, simplicity, and that which nourishes
