There are plenty of ways to stay healthy at work.  We think the world of Corporate Yoga, but if you’re already running yoga classes in your office, or yoga just isn’t your thing, consider these alternatives as a way to stay healthy at work:

(1)  Fit Exercise into your Day – If it’s not yoga at work, visit the gym, bike to work, go for a run on your lunch break or get out walking. Exercise has been proven to boost mood, lift energy and so much more.

(2) Drink Enough Water – And if you find water boring, try one of these combinations in your H2O: Watermelon/Lime, Cucumber/Mint, Strawberry/Lemon.  Even just a wedge of lemon or lime can mix things up.

(3) Take Breaks Throughout the Day – Within reason of course. But standing up to stretch for 1-2 minutes or leaving your desk to walk to a co-worker’s office to ask them something (instead of emailing them) gets your blood circulating and oxygen moving.  Don’t sit for too long.

(4) Eat a Healthy Lunch – We are what we eat. Choose healthy proteins like chicken and egg, vegetables, fruits and nuts/seeds over bread, deep fried foods, sugary treats and pop.  It will give you sustainable energy for the rest of the day and you’ll avoid that mid-day slump.

(5) Watch your Coffee Intake – Try to limit your coffee servings to 1-2 per day. Drink more water.

(6) Acknowledge Others’ Accomplishments – This is a big one. People love to be noticed when they’ve done something right.  So tell your boss thanks for something, high five your co-worker on a job well done or say “I appreciate you” to your assistant for going above and beyond.

(7) Get Enough Sleep at the end of the Day – Because unless it’s Friday or the weekend, you have to come back again tomorrow. And we all know how much harder it is to work when you’re exhausted.  Aim for 7-8 hours a night and go to sleep no later than 11 pm. Stick to a routine as much as you can.
