INNERGY INSIGHT

home_slider_slide3_balanceIt’s hard to believe that August is here already. Hopefully you’re enjoying the warm summer sun, the long days and the amazing weather we are blessed with here in Canada.

Our new website is up! If you haven’t checked it out yet, have a look. It has a fresher and more modern look than our old site.

We also have a few new services to tell you about, that we think you might be interested in:

-We’re now offering a Yoga Nidra workshop. If you EVER get stressed at work, this is the workshop for you. Participants will move into a deep and delightful state of relaxation where all stress is left behind.
-Know any seniors who could benefit from our Seniors Yoga programs? We offer group classes as well as private sessions.
-We’ll soon be offering Corporate Yoga Retreats – stay tuned for more information on this exciting program!

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new yoga teachers this and last month:  Carla and Christina in Calgary, Roseann in Hamilton, Ashley in Ottawa, Beth in Victoria, Renata in North Vancouver and Leanne in Burnaby. We’re excited to have each of you on the Innergy teaching team and we look forward to helping you all build a successful career teaching yoga!

Check out our healthy workplace pose below, Eagle Arms – it’s a wonderful stretch for the back and shoulders if you get stiff at work. And if you love summer’s fruit, try our workplace recipe, Fruit Salad with Cinnamon Chips. It’s delicious, fresh and healthy. You can make this ahead of time and bring it to work.

Hopefully you have some great plans for the rest of August, whether you’re on vacation or just enjoying some downtime on the weekends.  Don’t forget to fit in some yoga – if you can’t make it to a full class this month, read the article below on how to do yoga without going to a yoga class.

Happy Summer!

HEALTHY WORKPLACE YOGA POSE

Eagle Arms© 2007 Jackie Connelly

BENEFITS

Opens and stretches tight back muscles, releases tension in shoulders, chest, arms and neck, facilitates deeper breathing, improves circulation to upper body, including heart and lungs, reduces overall stress, increases energy and more.

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Sit slightly forward on your chair, legs at a 90° angle, feet flat on the floor.  Contract your abdominal muscles, roll your shoulders back and down, and lift your chest up.

Step 2: Reach your right arm forward, then bend your right arm and reach your right hand up, forming a 90° angle with the right arm.  Reach your left arm underneath your right arm, and turn your palms to face each other, pressing them together as best you can. Squeeze both arms together.

Step 3: Keeping both arms squeezed together in this position, lift your elbows up toward the sky as high as they will comfortably go.  Stay here for 3-5 breaths, breathing deeply in and out of your upper/mid back area.  Relax your shoulders and facial muscles.

Step 4: To release, take one last inhale, and as you exhale, release both arms and place your hands on your thighs.  Shake out your arms and breathe normally.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side, switching hand positions.
